“Let’s play charades!”Sarah suggested.
Everyone agreed, and they quickly gathered some paper and pens. They wrote down various camping-related words and phrases, such as “tent,” “s’mores,” “fishing,” and “hiking”. Then, they put the papers in a hat.
Mr. Johnson went first. He drew a piece of paper out of the hat and read it to himself. ‘S’mores,” he whispered.
He took a deep breath and started to act out his words. He held his hands together like a campfire and pretended to roast marshmallows. Then, he pretended to put the marshmallows on a graham cracker with chocolate.
‘S’mores!” guessed Sarah.
“Correct!” said Mr. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson went next. She drew a piece of paper out of the hat and read it to herself. “Fishing,” she whispered.
She took a deep breath and started to act out her words. She pretended to cast a line and reel in a fish.
“Fishing!” guessed Sarah again.
“Correct!” said Mrs. Johnson.
David, the youngest son, went next. He drew a piece of paper out of the hat and read it to himself. “Hiking,” he whispered.
He took a deep breath and started to act out his words. He pretended to walk up a hill and then down a hill.
“Hiking!” guessed Sarah one last time.
“Correct!” said David.
The Johnson family laughed and cheered as they played charades. They had so much fun that they didn’t even realize how late it was getting. Finally, Mrs. Johnson suggested that it was time for bed.

Jack, the youngest son, was chosen to be “it.” He grabbed a flashlight and hid behind a tree. The other campers scattered into the darkness.
“Ready or not, here I come!” Jack shouted.
Jack shined his flashlight around, but he couldn’t see anyone. He walked slowly through the campground, listening carefully for any sound.
Suddenly, he heard a rustling in the bushes. He turned his flashlight in that direction and saw Liza, his older sister, hiding behind a bush.
“Gotcha!” Jack shouted.
Liza laughed and ran away. Jack chased after her, shining his flashlight in her face. Liza dodged and weaved, but Jack eventually caught up to her.
“You’re it!” he said.

Everyone agreed, and they quickly found a suitable location in the campground. They marked a clear dividing line in the dirt and split into two teams.
Jack, the youngest son, was on one team with his father, Mr. Adam, and his sister, Emly. On the other team was Mrs. Adam and the two neighbors, the Smiths.
The two teams lined up on opposite sides of the dividing line and grabbed the rope. Mr. Adam was the anchor on Jack’s team, and he was determined to win.
“Ready?” he asked.
“Set!” shouted Jack.
“Go!” shouted Emly.
The two teams pulled the rope with all their might. Jack could feel the muscles in his arms burning, but he didn’t give up. He pulled and pulled, and slowly but surely, his team started to gain ground.
The Smiths were putting up a good fight, but they were no match for Jack and his team’s strength and determination. Inch by inch, Jack’s team dragged the Smiths over the dividing line.
But then, something unexpected happened. Jack’s team was so focused on winning that they did not realize how close they were to the edge of the dividing line. Just as they were about to cross the line, they all tripped and fell to the ground!
The Smiths couldn’t believe their eyes. They had lost the tug-of-war match, but they were laughing so hard that they didn’t even care. Jack and his team were laughing too. They couldn’t believe that they had fallen so clumsily.
Even though Jack’s team didn’t win the tug-of-war match, they had a lot of fun. They had learned that it’s important to laugh at yourself, even when you lose.
